‘This holiday season, the slay ride begins.’
Black Christmas is a 2006 American slasher horror film written for the screen and directed by Glen Morgan. Also advertised as Black X-Mas

The movie stars Katie Cassidy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Crystal Lowe, Lacey Chabert, Michelle Trachtenberg, Oliver Hudson, Kristen Cloke and Andrea Martin.

The film takes place several days before Christmas and tells the story of a group of sorority sisters who are stalked and murdered by one of their house’s former inhabitants during a winter storm. It is a loose remake of the 1974 film of the same name.

In December 2006, upon anticipation of its premiere, the film garnered some criticism from religious groups due to its graphic content in a holiday setting, as well as the distributor’s decision to release the film on Christmas Day in the United States.

Reviews:
Black Christmas has the smarts to be playful, with a choice selection of festive slasher gags pushing the envelope of bad taste: a candy cane’s sucked into a stabbing weapon and angel-shaped cookie cutters do more than cut cookies. The result’s an undemanding multiplex filler – a ho-ho-horror movie that knows it’s the season to be jolly.” BBCi

“The first victim is in the attic, but not nearly as big a deal is made out of it than in the original. The prank phone calls are here, too, but have next to nothing to do with anything. One of the girls is a drunk, but she has no distinction as the Margot Kidder character in the first, and the house mother here has only this useless perky attitude that is both funny and tedious.” Cinema de Merde

“There’s something off with the themes and how they are handled. The killer has a fascination with eyeballs—each victim has at least one popped out in every death sequence. It gets old and looks fake. Black Christmas has a truly dark, angry streak towards Christmas and its traditions which surfaces too readily during the film.” DVD Verdict
