Plot:

When a giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampages across the city of Los Angeles, it is up to one clever exterminator and his security guard sidekick to kill the creature before the entire city is destroyed…

Reviews:

Big Ass Spider! never scales the ecstatic heights of the very best scary-funny creep-out movies, like Joe Dante’s Piranha and James Gunn’s delirious Slither, but it has a winning, can-do spirit, and the actors strike just the right note of being in on the joke without sneering at the material — especially Grunberg, who plays Adam as a kind of latter-day Ralph Kramden, a blue-collar dreamer with a hero complex who finally gets his moment to shine.” Variety

Big Ass Spider

“… movies like Big Ass Spider! and its ilk (Bitch SlapHobo with a Shotgun, etc.) actively contradict themselves by admonishing the ambition of the aesthetes they wish to honor and misconstruing their eccentricities as deficiencies—or worse, they implement camp with a false sense of superiority, positing themselves as progressive because of their intentionality.” Slant Magazine

“The second half is pretty much non-stop action, with the ever-increasing spider on screen for most of the time, whether it’s rampaging through a park […] or dispatching a whole load of soldiers in a ‘Found Footage’-influenced scene which seems to satirise that genre.” Horror Cult Films

Big Ass Spider is considerably more appealing than most of what passes for an independently-produced monster movie these days, and yes, I’m looking at you, SyFy Channel and Asylum Entertainment … Call it slight or silly, but don’t call it stupid. Judged solely on the scale of Giant Spider Cinema, the slick and satisfying Big Ass Spider ranks surprisingly high…” FEARnet
