‘Dirty Harry… only hairier’

WolfCop is a 2014 Canadian comedy horror film written and directed by Lowell Dean. It was the first film chosen for production from the CineCoup Film Accelerator.

The movie stars Leo Fafard (Another WolfCop), Amy Matysio (Another WolfCop; Vampire Dog; The Risen), Sarah Lind (BlackburnThe Exorcism of Molly Hartley; Severed), Corrine Conley (A Christmas Horror StoryThe Return of Count Yorga; The Night God Screamed), Jesse Moss (Dear Mr. Gacy; Tucker and Dale vs Evil; The Uninvited), Jonathan Cherry (Another WolfCop; House of the Dead; Final Destination 2), Aidan Devine (Hannibal TV series).

Plot:

Lou Garou, an alcoholic small-town cop, begins to transform into a werewolf after being cursed when he interrupts a ceremony in the woods…

Reviews:

The film boasts one of the most unique werewolf transformation scenes you’ll ever see. Most films will concentrate on the head or the torso when showing human to werewolf transformations. Yes, this film offers the first shot of a penis turning lupine, which is definitely something to behold!

The transformation scenes later in the film are less eye-popping, but remain impressive, the wolf literally tearing through the skin. It’s the sort of thing that can only really work as a physical effect – CGI would make this too smooth, too fluid – and definitely sits up there with the best transformation scenes in the genre …

Werewolves often feel like the underachievers of the horror genre, rarely fulfilling the potential, but WolfCop should satisfy most lycanthrope enthusiasts with its heady mix of broad humour, sloppy gore, bad taste and action.

Other reviews:

“It is pleasantly warming to see a werewolf slashing, biting and beheading the unsuspecting, and especially the solely deserving. While Wolfcop does tend to overreach, and too-often falls back on its predictable buddy-cop formula splatstick shtick, it’s still plenty fun, giving one hope that Wolfcop 2 will add a bit more sophistication to balance the quality fuzzy fuzz action.” Craig Anderson, Fangoria

“Director Lowell Dean’s horror-comedy isn’t as good as Ginger Snaps, the last great Canadian werewolf picture, but it’s enough of a gory hoot with its redneck milieu and old-school, in-camera special effects to anchor a fun, chemically assisted night out. You can’t but help warming to a movie in which the star werewolf kills three armed robbers wearing pig masks.” The Guardian

001

“This is horror/comedy with a heavier leaning on the latter than the former, and like WolfCop tagging some graffiti punks with his urine a few of the jokes and gags hit their mark. One bit involving a guy whose face is ripped off is compulsively funny, but too many of the jokes land with a thud that barely reaches the level of sophomoric or poorly written.” Film School Rejects

“The film itself is ragged around the edges and frequently fails to make sense, but it moves quickly and delivers the goods; and it looked good up on a big screen. And of all the Canadian grindhouse throwbacks, from Hobo to Dead Hooker and through the collected works of Astron-6, WolfCop feels the most like something you might have picked up in a video store in 1987…” Caelum Vatnsdal, They Came from Within: A History of Canadian Horror Cinema
