FINAL DESTINATION 5 (2011) Reviews and overview

‘Death has never been closer’
Final Destination 5 is a 2011 American horror film in which the survivors of a suspension bridge collapse learn there is no way you can cheat Death.

Directed by Steven Quale from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer, the movie stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Arlen Escarpeta, Miles Fisher, Ellen Wroe, P.J. Byrn and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood.

Plot:
During a bus ride with his colleagues to a corporate retreat, Sam (Nicholas D’Agosto) experiences a horrifying vision: the suspension bridge that they — and many others — are crossing starts to crumble around them.

When his vision ends and, almost immediately, starts to come true, Sam takes quick action that saves a number of people, including his girlfriend, Molly (Emma Bell), and his best friend, Peter (Miles Fisher). However, the survivors soon find that Death will not be denied…

Reviews:
” …the rule enhancement – the doomed can cheat death again by killing another – only diverts the formula into a distracting bit of stop-the-psycho. Death needs a rethink. One stand-out set piece aside, even the presence of a new director can’t inject much freshness into the franchise.” Empire

“Giving Final Destination fans everything they could have ever wanted in a sequel (including the return of Tony Todd) Final Destination 5 is one of the best horror films of the year so far. It’s the kind of horror movie that 3D was made for, giving final proof that 3D can work well when used properly and intelligently.” Love Horror

” …just about all of the deaths are pretty elaborate this time out, and they should have you appropriately squirming before grossing you out. I’d say at least two of them (the gymnast and acupuncture bits) land in the pantheon of great Final Destination moments because one features an awesome effect, while the other one lets the series once again prove that losing your head can be kind of funny.” Oh, the Horror!

“The increasingly challenging task for the filmmakers is to devise ever more horrible and gruesome methods for them to be slaughtered. FD5″ shows a lot of ingenuity. The recurring theme this time will be skewering and lots of it. The characters have names but they might as well be called after items for a shish kebab…” Roger Ebert
