Last Cannibal World aka Jungle Holocaust – Italy, 1976 – reviews

Last Cannibal World – original title: Ultimo mondo cannibaleand also known as Jungle Holocaust – is a 1976 Italian exploitation feature film directed by Ruggero Deodato (House at the Edge of the Park).

The movie stars Massimo Foschi, Me Me Lai and Ivan Rassimov. The screenplay by Tito Carpi, Gianfranco Clerici and Renzo Genta tells the story of a man trying to escape from a jungle island in Papua New Guinea inhabited by a primitive cannibal tribe.

The film was distributed under a confusing number of different titles, such as Cannibal! (UK), The Last Survivor and Carnivorous (USA) and edits, and is available uncut on DVD from Shriek Show. It is the precursor to Deodato’s controversial 1980 film Cannibal Holocaust, although it was originally slated to be directed by Umberto Lenzi as a follow-up to his 1972 jungle shocker The Man from Deep River.
