Plot:
A young boy named DJ has suspicions about the house across the street and the cranky old man (voiced by Steve Buscemi) who lives there. When the old man has a heart attack and is carried away by an ambulance DJ thinks the danger is over.
Unfortunately, as he, his friend Chowder (Sam Lerner), and a candy-selling prep-school girl named Jenny (Spencer Locke) discover, the house itself has plans–plans that include eating all the kids who’ll be trick-or-treating that Halloween night…
Reviews:
“The plot rockets along, plunging us into scenes that are loaded with high adventure, dark drama and freak-out terror. After the initial mayhem, entering the house with the kids it’s a truly harrowing experience that skilfully sets up the outrageous final sequence. It’s probably far too frightening for very young children, but give them some time and they’ll love it almost as much as their parents.” Shadows on the Wall
“A solid script and acting really complement the star of this film, which is the animation itself, and enables it to connect with viewers of all ages—anyone who’s ever grown up with (and not forgotten) those basic childhood fears.” Movie Met
“Monster House deserves to be a milestone moment in the lives of young filmgoers, a creative coming of age where the electronic babysitter gives way to the real appreciation of film as an art form. Leave it to two men who’ve made their careers out of such aesthetic defining moments to put the latest technology to the test – and doing so without relying on the gimmicks that are quickly killing the genre. No matter the time of year, Monster House is a masterful flight of fancy.” DVD Verdict
