Bait aka Bait 3D is a 2012 Australian-Singaporean 3D horror feature film directed by Kimble Rendall from a screenplay written by John Kim and Russell Mulcahy (Razorback). The movie stars Phoebe Tonkin, Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Cariba Heine, Alex Russell, Lincoln Lewis, Alice Parkinson, and Dan Wyllie.
A freak tsunami traps shoppers at a coastal Australian supermarket inside the building – along with a twelve-foot Great White Shark.
Despite only earning approximately $775,000 in its home country of Australia, Bait was a sizeable success overseas, making over $20 million China alone. It also made $2 million in Italy.
“Taking “snakes on a plane” or “sharks in a supermarket” seriously is funnier than playing it for laughs. And if you take even the craziest concept seriously, you wind up with an audience who gets involved anyway.” William Bibbiani, Crave On Line
” …the movie never plants its tongue firmly enough in its cheek to have much fun with the mayhem. While it’s a vast improvement on last year’s atrocious 3D Jaws wannabe, Shark Night, and less formulaic than the recent Piranha spawn, Bait is a missed opportunity.” David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter
” …Bait 3D just sort of sits there, dull, cheap, and borderline insulting with its amateur hour presentation. What was once an amusing idea on paper has become a painfully low-budget reality…” Scott Weinberg, FEARnet
Bait was released in Australia on 20 September 2012.
