A prequel, Muck: Feast of St. Patrick, and a sequel, Muck Offed, have been mooted but have yet to appear (possibly due to the generally negative reviews of the original).

After narrowly escaping an ancient burial ground, long forgotten and buried underneath the marshes of Cape Cod, a group of friends emerge from the thick, marshy darkness, tattered and bloody, lucky to be alive. They have already lost two of their friends in the marsh, presumably dead.

They stumble upon an empty vacation house alongside the foggy marsh and break in to take shelter. Whatever was in the marsh is still after them and soon after one of them goes for help, the rest of the group learns that the evil in the marsh is not the only thing that wants them dead.

Something worse, something more savage, was lying in wait just outside the marsh, in the house. What happens next is unspeakable, a horror that cannot be unseen. These unlucky travellers spend their St. Patrick’s Day trapped between two evils forcing them to fight, die, or go back the way they came…

Reviews:
“Its geography makes no sense; its plotting less so. Its characters are the least likable people to ever inhabit a horror movie—shrill and bickering, constantly making stupid, inappropriate comments no matter how much danger they may find themselves. The women are shrieking pin-ups, the men date rapists. There is not one thing in this movie that works. Not one.” DVD Verdict

” … the frustrating story, downright detestable characters and lame attempts at scoring brownie points with your viewers makes this film a joke. It seems Wolsh forgot the reasons behind certain aspects of past classic horror movies (and storytelling), and instead just decided to get hot women to oogle while having Kane Hodder toss around the plasma. Uh, no. That only works when your film is entertaining.” Bloody Disgusting

“[Writer/director Steve Wolsh] clearly knows what he’s spoofing, but rather than dismantling the standards and cliches of the genre, he just repeats them, often to the point of absurdity. Yes, we know teens do dumb things in horror movies, but that doesn’t mean everything your characters do has to be stupid (shower breaks during a chase sequence, and stopping for shots when you’re supposed to be calling the cops are particular high points).” Austin Chronicle

“When aimed at the women, Wolsh’s camera gropes and leers; one actress’s ass is thanked in the closing credits. Muck pairs a repellent concept with amateurish dialogue, acting, editing, lighting, and pacing. A sequel is already planned: Someone’s betting hard on tits and gore.” Village Voice

Muck is not only one of the worst films of the year – it’s one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. I’d happily rate it a zero, but that would be an insult to zeroes worldwide. Do yourself a mothermucking favor and avoid Muck.” Horror News
