‘You don’t play the game. It play you.’

13 Sins aka Angry Little God and 13: Game of Death, is a 2014 American horror thriller film remake of the 2006 Thai movie 13 Beloved.

The film was co-written and directed by Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) and stars Ron Perlman (Alien: Resurrection, Rats), Mark Webber, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Christopher Berry, Stephanie Honoré, Rutina Wesley, Devon Graye, Brittney Alger, Tom Bower, Beau Brasseaux.

Plot:

A bright but meek salesman (Mark Webber), drowning in debt as he’s about to get married, receives a mysterious phone call informing him that he’s on a hidden camera game show where he must execute thirteen tasks in order to receive a multi-million dollar cash prize…

Reviews:

“There are also a couple of twists as 13 Sins nears its conclusion, one of which strains credulity to the limit, while the other proves to be quite effective.   The ending does at least neatly tie together all the information we’ve been fed throughout the movie, but the whole thing is riddled with so many plot holes, and eventually becomes so far-fetched, that all the initial promise is dissipated.” 20/20 Movie Reviews

“Overall the acting is above average; Mark Webber gives a great performance as the main character.  While there may not be as much suspense as you would like in a film like this, it is still entertaining enough to overcome its flaws. 13 Sins is a fun to watch awful horror movie.” Awful Horror Movies

13 Sins can be uneven when it’s not concentrating on building sturdy storytelling bridges from one incident to the next, but it doesn’t derail the film. Instead, the picture walks away with a limp, still perfectly acceptable as a grotesque odyssey of moral corruption fueled by greed, boasting a welcome uptick in directorial quality from Stamm…” Blu-ray.com

“Stamm accompanies the suspense and the horror with moments involving an ostrich, the dorky wardrobe of a cartoon rabbit t-shirt, and even a goofy “Weekend at Bernie’s” homage. What Stamm is really doing is giving a wink to the audience that lets them know he is in on the joke.  “13 Sins” merely wishes to have a good time with its concept without going overboard on justifying disbelief with too sincere of a theme.” Culture Crypt

“Stamm’s 2010 The Last Exorcism was one of the better of the mediocre found-footage horror films, but 13 Sins doesn’t really show much growth for him. It’s not a terrible movie, it just runs of out gas and leaves the viewer feeling unsatisfied […] As it stands, 13 Sins is good for a rental, but don’t accept the challenge to do much more.” DVD Sleuth

Release:

13 Sins was released on VOD on March 14, 2014, with a theatrical release date of April 18, 2014.
