Paranormal Extremes: Text Messages from the Dead is a 2015 American supernatural horror film directed by Ted V. Mikels (The Astro-Zombies and belated sequels; The Corpse Grinders; Blood Orgy of the She-Devils) from a screenplay co-written with Cory Udler.
The movie stars Colie Knoke, Ted V. Mikels, Beverly Washburn (Spider Baby), Sean Morelli, Brenda Grippi, Josef Niznik, Dawna Lee Heising, Jim Wheble and Drew Marvick.
Plot:
A blonde Las Vegas showgirl has always felt a connection with the spirit world. After her fiancee dies in a tragic accident, she begins receiving foreboding messages on her cell phone. She soon realizes that these messages must be from her dead lover, who is contacting her from the other side…
Review:
Veteran trash film ‘auteur’ Ted V. Mikels proves that he has still learnt little about making entertaining movies, even though he has been dabbling in the horror, sci-fi and action genres since the early 1960s.
Paranormal Extremes offers sub-amateur acting performances, a hilariously inept script (surely written on the hoof, scene-by-scene, it’s that bad), gratingly mismatched overly-dramatic music library cues and minor not-so-special effects. These elements all combine in an overlong (an hour and 42 minutes!) mess that induces the equivalent of a coma in the viewer.
Granted, the vaguely amusing scenes involving the sceptical ‘Paranormal Wars’ film crew make this slightly less of an endurance test but it’s a case of the proverbial too little, too late.
Depressingly, this insult to anyone’s intelligence has been mass released on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD, because the inclusion of the words ‘Paranormal’ and ‘Extreme’ will always sucker in some punters. So, elderly ‘entrepreneur’ exploitation filmmaker Mikels is clearly having the last laugh. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you.
