In Search of Lovecraft is a 2008 American supernatural horror film written and directed by David J. Hohl (Demon Plague).
The movie stars Denise Amrikhas, Tytus Bergstrom, Jeff De Lucio-Brock, Larry Laverty, Rachael Robbins (Terror Firmer; Bikini Bloodbath Car Wash; Bikini Bloodbath Christmas).
While shooting a Halloween news story on horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, reporter Rebecca Marsh discovers that the “fiction” Lovecraft wrote is actually true and the creatures and cults described in his writings really exist…
Review:
Although it’s not found footage or a mockumentary, David J. Hohl’s ultra-low budget movie presents us with supposed ‘real footage’ and despite a few flawed early attempts at pointless comedy, the performances are surprisingly acceptable and a creepy atmosphere is gradually developed; there’s the rub: gradually.
Unfortunately, In Search of Lovecraft is way too self-indulgent and therefore overlong. What might have been reasonably agreeable at 77 minutes (where’s ruthless Roger Corman when you need him?) is dragged out to an interminable 98 minutes. It’s a shame as this is by no means the worst of these supernatural ‘reality’ scare productions. Unfortunately, this film is difficult to recommend to anyone but hyper-patient Lovecraft devotees.

Other reviews:
“This is a nice representation of making what’s due with what is on hand and not having to expense a lot of extra frills. The frills may have heightened the presentation but I think as an audience we get the gist of the direction enough to take in what is being served up. Hohl has created a decent supernatural thriller that holds up just fine in its low budget nature.” Horror News
