‘Send him back’

First Man on Mars is a 2016 American science fiction comedy horror film produced, written and directed by Mike T. Lyddon (Witch Tales; CreepersZombie! vs. Mardi Gras). The Reel Progress production stars Marcelle Shaneyfelt, Gavin Ferrara and Benjamin J. Wood.

Plot:

In 2003, billionaire astronaut Eli Cologne began his journey through space to become the first man on Mars, but something went horribly wrong.. Infected by an alien organism on the red planet, he returned to Earth a crazed, savage monster with an unquenchable thirst for human flesh.

The space craft crashed undetected in a remote part of Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina, and he’s been hunting both human and animal prey in the swamps for years. Beautiful yet domineering scientist Doctor Martine Munro was in charge of the Mars Mission and Eli Cologne’s secret lover.

Now that she’s received a signal from the transmitter on the lost space craft, she and a few bumbling, nerdy scientists head to the sleepy town of Black Bayou in search of the lost astronaut. For small-town sheriff Dick Ruffman, it’s a race against time to find the man-turned-monster before he kills again…

Reviews:

“The script is chock full of sly pop culture and sci-fi references which actually make it better. There are a lot of great one-liners and clever dialogue. Even the acting, quite a bit of which is either painfully bad or the accomplishment of such nuanced actors that they can play bad acting to the hilt, works.” UK Horror Scene

“I have a few gripes. It’s slow paced and a bit laggy. The sound isn’t great. It’s amusing, but not laugh-out-loud funny. The acting is either really bad, or done tongue-in-cheek (I think it’s a mix of both, depending on the actor).” Lois Kennedy, Addicted to Horror Movies

“The over the top gore, silly dialogue, and ridiculous plot will definitely remind you of Troma’s best films. Thrown in some sure girls, and writer-director Mike Lyddon has the formula for a successful exploitation film down. Worth seeing if you are nostalgic for the heyday of Troma Films.” Anything Horror

“An enjoyable film for those who like to watch campy flicks in the same vein as the 70’s grindhouse features or just enjoy B-movie style creature features. Revel in the humour that Lyddon has crafted which is a bit hit or miss depending on your tastes. The special effects are brilliantly constructed with just enough eye popping and red sticky stuff to fill the screen.” Horror Screams Video Vault
