‘The survival horde crafting game’

7 Days to Die is a survival horror video game set in an open world developed by The Fun Pimps. It was released through Early Access on Steam for Microsoft Windows and OS Xon December 13, 2013. Versions for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were released in June 2016 via Telltale Publishing.

Story:

The game’s events happen after a nuclear Third World War that destroyed an extremely large part of the world, except for some areas such as the fictional county of Navezgane, Arizona.

The player is a survivor of the war who must survive by finding shelter, food and water, as well as scavenging supplies to fend off the numerous zombies (hinted to be the consequence of nuclear fallout) that populate Navezgane…

Gameplay:

In 7 Days To Die, the player spawns into a randomly generated world or the preset world of Navezgane, Arizona, with the objective of surviving for as long as possible. As the days go by, the zombies get tougher and more aggressive. The game features the ability to craft, destroy, and manipulate objects. There is also a physics system in which building a structure with no support such as pillars and walls can lead to its collapse.

The game’s main focus is to have the players try to survive the night, as the game features a day and night cycle, making the zombies slow and weak during the day, yet fast and aggressive during night-time. The game features a system in which the character constantly needs food and water.

Reviews (2016 version):

7 Days to Die looks significantly worse than its PC counterpart — even with the aforementioned fog and reduced view distance it struggles to run. Thanks to an auto-saving system the game will seize every minute or so. The loading times for saved games are abysmal, to the point that I was waiting more than 20 minutes for a game to load. Zombies regularly glitch and die standing instead of falling down dead…” Joab Gilroy, Gamespot.com

“This is a sandbox game through and through, and while it does some basic zombie-survival-fantasy things right — hence the traction it has gained on Steam Early Access, and the interest from Telltale as a publisher — it is largely disappointing.” Jordan Devore, Destructoid.com

“There’s a hint of a good game in 7 Days to Die‘s mix of zombie attack preparedness and crafting and cooperative stands against zombies, and it has valuable ideas to contribute to the genre. In fact, you can almost hear them screaming to escape from beneath terrible graphics, barely useable menu controls, and shoddy console optimization. This is an apocalypse amongst apocalypses.” Leif Johnson, IGN
