Don’t Kill It is a 2016 American supernatural action horror film directed by Mike Mendez (Lavalantula; Big Ass Spider! The Convent; Tales of Halloween) from a screenplay by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (The StakelanderBody).

The Last Pictures production stars Dolph Lundgren, James Chalke and Kristina Klebe.

An ancient evil is unleashed in a small Mississippi town of Chickory Creek leaving a trail of death and destruction as it passes from host to host.

The only hope of survival lies with Jebediah Woodley (Dolph Lundgren), a grizzled demon hunter, who has faced this terror before. Together with a reluctant FBI agent, he has to figure out how to destroy a demon with the ability to possess its killer…

Reviews:

“This is ultimately a set-piece-driven film, with long lulls between its highs. But even when Don’t Kill It veers toward the ordinary, Lundgren is there with his lived-in face and playful eyes, waiting as ever to spring into action. It’s great to see him in a fun movie again.” Los Angeles Times

“It arguably took Mendez to work out what everyone else had ignored. It also arguably gave him the component that he really needed. He’s never seemingly hit quite the right tone in his films to date […] But in the perfectly self-aware Lundgren, he has his perfect muse/foil for his brand of smartly/silly horror spoof.” The Austin Chronicle

“The sight of Lundgren vaping and ranting about supernatural murders with a Southern twang almost makes everything else — namely, a transmissible mania that instantly passes from the afflicted killer to whoever kills him or her — worth it, but anyone hoping for more than a VOD time-killer that’s occasionally in on the joke of its own ridiculousness is barking up the wrong tree.” The Village Voice

“As for Lundgren, his stumble-talking monster hunter somehow strikes an enjoyable comedic wit. We get a hilariously-placed sex scene (complete with a demon-face hallucination on his companion), plenty of “I told ya so” sass and some real small-town scene chewing that makes Jebediah Woodley an enjoyable hero.” We Got This Covered

“Mendez does what he can with very little, but his enthusiasm for B-movie chaos and jesting is terrific, helping to lift the effort a few inches off the ground, also avoiding anything too campy. He also pulls a fantastic and engaged lead performance out of Lundgren…” Blu-ray.com

“Mendez has clearly mapped out something bigger, but it doesn’t matter if we never see the whole thing; like health insurance, just knowing it’s there is enough. On top of this, the gore-fests are glorious, never letting the viewer feel cheated. It’s just a shame we sometimes go long stretches between them.” Nerdist

Don’t Kill It loses so much of the humor in the final act that it ends up hurting the film. That being said, the film never ceases to entertain even when it gets bogged down in its own mythology. Don’t Kill It has its tongue planted firmly in cheek and doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t.” Bloody Disgusting

“The film provides a fun ride through the nostalgia of gore-fests and the importance of women saving the world. Don’t Kill It is overly ridiculous at times, but this makes it even more charming, and lets the tense moments stand out against the sea of in-your-face blood and guts.” Film Inquiry:

Mendez and Lundgren are obviously having so much fun, you can’t help but want to join in. Don’t Kill It is a cheeky camp parade with buckets of low-rent charm, and for fans of camp cinema and Lundgren’s B-Movie fare, Don’t Kill It will fit like slipping into something cozy and familiar with a few surprises along the way.” Collider

Don’t Kill It is a trifle, but it’s briskly directed by Mike Mendez, and with The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kurtzman heading up the makeup-effects department, it’s impressively—one might even say gleefully—gory. And it’s sequel-ready if fans decide they want more of Jebediah.” Film Journal
