TRIANGLE Reviews of Christopher Smith’s mystery horror

‘Fear comes in waves’
Triangle is a 2009 British-Australian horror film written and directed by Christopher Smith (Severance; Creep). The movie stars Melissa George, Michael Dorman, Rachael Carpani, Henry Nixon, Emma Lung and Liam Hemsworth.

Plot:
Ocean-bound horror in which a day’s sailing goes horribly wrong for a group of friends. Setting sail on a yacht with her friends, Jess (Melissa George) has a gut feeling that something is about to go wrong.

After running into a violent storm, the group is forced to seek shelter on what appears to be an abandoned ocean liner, a ship Jess is convinced she’s been on before. Although the ship appears to bear all the hallmarks of a ‘Marie Celeste’, the coming days will see the group in a desperate fight, as each tries to evade the evil presence intent on hunting them down one by one…

Reviews:
Triangle is an underrated production and if your lucky not to have seen it yet you’re in for an unforgettable trip.” Bleeding Critic

“There are some questionable special effects here, but the ocean liner looks great and it helps to sell the story. The acting is solid and kudos to George for looking so dowdy and pale here […] Triangle isn’t a perfect film, but it will certainly stay with you after you watch it.” DVD Sleuth

Triangle tries to out clever you and it succeeds. You want a horror thriller to challenge you, make you really try hard to find out what’s going on. As the ending approached I had my theories and I kinda knew what was going to happen. You can see the cliche coming but it’s all good. You want to see that ending. The one you feel is coming.” The Jaded Viewer

Triangle is a good movie but not a great movie, well depending on how observant you are. But if you want to watch a movie which at least tries to be intriguing then give it a go as I have to give it credit for trying especially with some of the visuals.” The Movie Scene

“Too loose and too contrived, the plot is left with lots of gaps and there is insufficient stuffing in the characters to make us care much about them. Glimmers of hope are dashed as the screenplay turns inside out on itself in an attempt to turn the spooky into something meaningful, throwing all sorts of elements at it.” Urban Cinefile

Triangle is a tightly wound, tense thriller that keeps you guessing and manages to make the bizarre scenarios unfold through solid acting and clever pacing. From the very beginning you are trying to figure out what is happening and even up until it finishes you may be still be wondering but that is the great thing about Triangle. It takes you around in circles.” Wicked Horror
