LITTLE EVIL (2017) Reviews and overview

‘Samantha is his dream. Lucas is his nightmare’

Little Evil is a 2017 American comedy horror film written and directed by Eli Craig (Zombieland TV pilot; Tucker and Dale vs. Evil). It stars Evangeline Lilly, Adam Scott and Owen Atlas.

Gary (Adam Scott) marries Samantha (Evangeline Lilly), the woman of his dreams, only to discover her six year-old son (Owen Atlas) may be the Antichrist…

The Netflix film was first shown on September 1, 2017.

Reviews:

“…Little Evil remains light enough to connect, even when it showcases gruesome deaths and demonic antagonism. It’s immensely enjoyable at times, restoring faith in Craig and his growing reputation for chipper chillers.” Brian Orndorf, Blu-ray.com

“All in, this is a fairly throwaway movie. The beats are familiar, it’s just that Gary’s merry band of misfits consists of a step-dad support group. There are some laughs to be had here, and if you’re a fan of horror, it’s fun to play Where’s Waldo with the references.” Assholes Watching Movies

“The horror elements while fun and campy, never actually hit that true satisfying horror moment so this is absolutely more comedy than horror. And the ending for me personally felt a little too cheesy, but I’m not sure how else it could’ve ended, so I won’t complain too much. Overall it was super entertaining…” Addicted to Horror Movies

“The unabashed affection on display for genre cinema is cute, and if you meet the movie on its own terms there is fun to be had. Still, while it’s all very well-intentioned and easy to digest, it’s also pretty forgettable come the end.” Kieran Fisher, Film School Rejects

“While this won’t win any awards for its terror, it maintains a good balance for humour and storytelling that allows the subject matter to be an enjoyable romp and prestige to the genre rather than a parody.” Martyn Wakefield, Bloodguts UK Horror

“The more structured story, stronger jokes and tighter writing make it a better movie than Tucker and Dale vs Evil (yeah, I said it) but it’s let down by the broadness of the comedy and mishandling of its tiny monster. Little Evil is very funny, charming and extremely agreeable, but it’s just a bit too, well, little.

Choice dialogue:

Gozomel: “So, what makes you think you’re stepson is the spawn of Satan?”
