‘Unleash the beast’
Blood Redd is a 2017 American supernatural horror written and directed by Brad Palmer [as Bradley A. Palmer] (writer of Gehenna: Where Death Lives).

The movie stars Stephanie Hullar (Amhurst), Torey Widener (short: Signed, Souled, and Delivered) and Julie Marie Hassett (short: Zombie Paradise).

Plot:
Mortimer Clark, a forensic pathologist finds himself autopsying yet another teenage girl’s body ravaged and torn by a large canine. The girls all have been slain on the full moon. A werewolf though? That’s ridiculous.

Unfortunately, the next full moon is drawing near and another body is expected. On the day of the full moon, Lauren Redd, a sixteen-year-old young woman is being forced to spend the weekend with her grandmother. Here she steps into an elaborate trap laid out by a manipulative killer. But when Lauren’s finally cornered, the tables turn and the prey becomes the predator.

Now the Redd family will go to any length to protect their daughter and hide their family secret but Mortimer is quickly following the trail that leads to the horrific truth: Werewolves do exist, and they have an appetite that must be satisfied…

Reviews:
“Wafts of Ginger Snaps are prevalent throughout, but this still is a pretty different take on the subject of the tapping into one’s more bestial side. Heavy in character, yet light in convincing effects, Blood Redd isn’t your typical werewolf tale and in a subgenre that really doesn’t have a lot of originality, that’s impressive in itself.” Ain’t It Cool News

” …has little werewolf, not a lot of blood, but a lot of night – or alternatively wasteland. The 90 minutes could have been condensed into a brisk (and then relatively bloody) short film of 30 minutes – so you have to look for the highlights a little or be a little patient.” 40% Blu-ray Rezensionen [translated from German]

” …there are aspects which make the limited resources painfully obvious, such as the actual transformation – they probably shouldn’t have bothered. On the other hand, some are well done: Hassett gives a convincing portrayal of a mother willing to do anything for her daughter, and the ending ties up the loose ends in a way that makes sense and is also emotionally satisfying.” Girls with Guns

“An attempt was made, and the practical effects are kind of nice, but unfortunately the end result is still mostly just a bunch of awkward, slow conversations in badly lit rooms.” Gristle McNerd

“If you’re a fan of werewolf movies, like suspense and are willing to watch something without “name talent” in it, then please give this one some of your time.  Do be sure to give it at least 30 minutes to grab hold of you […] this movie is because it’s more about storytelling and character growth than grabbing you by the throat and shaking scares out of you. It’s really everything an independent monster movie should be.” Indie Streams

“I really did like the plot idea […] However, the low-budget aspect killed the film. The sound wasn’t good. The special effects, which we see at the end, were abysmally bad. The soundtrack which started out fine during the opening credits feels like a tired piano. The acting was below “B” film standard with the dialogue not helping. The Movie Guy

“The movie, despite its many glaring flaws, if you can get by them, has a lotof good ideas and really has a well thought out story. It’s a unique and interesting take on werewolves that I really haven’t seen before. And I honestly think that if someone were to look at this movie and borrow some ideas from it, the end product could be great.” Patrick Sullivan
