SCARS OF XAVIER (2017) Reviews and overview

‘I’m not going to hurt you. I’m going to kill you.’

Scars of Xavier is a 2017 German horror thriller film, shot in English, directed by Kai E. Bogatzki (editor of The Corpse Grinders and Blood Feast remakes) from a screenplay co-written with Marc Engel. The latter stars, alongside Isabelle Aring and Frank Freitag.

Plot:

Xavier (Marc Engel) is a quiet forty-five-year-old man who lives in Prague. By day he works in a car wash service, but by night he is a brutal and vicious serial killer who primarily targets young women… until one day he meets a waitress named Karolina, and suddenly everything changes.

Knowing Karolina awakens emotions deep within him that he thought were lost a long time ago. However, these newfound emotions also kick his murderous desires into overdrive, and his urge to kill grows and grows.

Can he juggle both aspects of his life, or will it all end in disaster?

Reviews:

“Unfortunately, it’s very hard for any level of quirky, artful shooting, talented acting and gore to overcome a screenplay that is fatally flawed in its pacing. Scars of Xavier is not an entire misfire, no, but it could have been vastly elevated had certain relationships been developed earlier on and its main character been allotted a better chance at personal evolution.” Cryptic Rock

Scars of Xavier is an accomplished indie genre film, but my one main beef with it is how it ends. It’s not a big issue, but I was just hoping for a little more, and it just stops. I did enjoy how the film also showed a more peaceful, caring side of Xavier. It gives the audience something likable about the character in the middle of an otherwise continuous bloodstained trail of killing.” Pop Horror

“The film-makers do have a talent for this type of genre thriller and it is a shame that they didn’t expand on some of the psychological ideas and concepts that would have elevated this film to the classic status of a Se7en or Henry.” Starburst
