The Nursery is a 2017 American supernatural horror film directed by Christopher A. Micklos and Jay Sapiro from a screenplay by Micklos. The Visuality Media Productions movie stars Carly Rae James Sauer, Madeline Conway and David Sapiro.
Plot:
When a damaged college sophomore babysits for a family with a tragic history, she finds herself stalked by a sinister presence and haunted by ghosts from her own past.
Soon, she and her friends must confront the angry spirit hunting them down one-by-one on a deliberate march towards its ultimate prey…
Review:
The Nursery is a so-so American rehash of the Japanese yūrei ghost-girl trope begun in Maruyama Ōkyo’s painting, The Ghost of Oyuki, and which came to worldwide attention in Hideo Nakata’s horror movie hit, Ring (aka Ringu, 1998).
With a wealth of listless stingers, contrived situations, unconvincing dialogue, and tiresome characters, the film comes off as a collection of lukewarm outtakes from better made predecessors, plus a nod to Dario Argento’s Suspiria.
Daniel Andera’s visuals, while possibly the best thing in the movie, are only satisfactory and simply lack the punch required to compensate for the numerous other inferior elements. The Nursery is strictly for the die hard yūrei fan!
