FINDERS KEEPERS (2014) Reviews and overview

‘No soul is safe’

Finders Keepers is a 2014 American supernatural horror film directed by prolific cinematographer Alexander Yellen (Z Nation) from a screenplay by co-producer Peter Sullivan (Chupacabra vs. the Alamo; Abandoned; Hydra).

The movie stars Jaime Pressly, Patrick Muldoon, Marina Sirtis, Justina Machado and Tobin Bell.

Divorced mother Alyson Simon (Jaime Pressly) is thrown into turmoil when her young daughter Claire becomes obsessed with an evil doll left behind by the previous occupants of their new home…

Reviews:

“I’m hard pressed to think of reasons to give it a watch. The cast, mostly. I still enjoy Pressly and Bell, even in such a ridiculous setting. The visual effects are surprisingly good, at least for a Syfy movie. It’s bad, but it’s funny bad, not painful bad. Give it a look if you’re in the mood to laugh.” Lois Kennedy, Addicted to Horror Movies

“There are very few scenes that will garner any reaction from the audience.  Every scene has either been done a million times by better movies or have been done once before and never tried again due to its awfulness.  I honestly believe that this whole movie could be recreated with clips from other films.” Awful Horror Movies

The red herrings fly fast and loose, and a lot of plot elements are injected just for the sake of compensating for the clear lack of frights. The writers can’t even decide what the doll is, offering explanations that maybe it’s a worry doll, or a voodoo doll, or an evil spirit, or the embodied spirit of its owner, or a demonic presence consuming the daughter.: Felix Vasquez, Cinema Crazed

“Though not particularly gory in any sense, the movie is incredibly sinister at times which helps to create the unease in the viewer. However, the film feels dragged out and even a bit silly in parts which disrupts the flow of the story. If you’re into scary doll films, you might wanna check Finders Keepers out, but don’t expect too much from it.” Horror Cult Films

“You can either choose to sit back and be as annoyed as a single mother of six in FoodMax, or you can embrace the film’s strengths and respect the fact that at the end of the day, it isn’t a boring film […] Somewhere in between greatness and awfulness holds an open seat for a movie like Finders Keepers.” Matt Molgaard, Horrorfreak News

” …the movie is incredibly menacing at times creating uneasiness. The doll used in the movie was  very creepy, and the appearance made me believe that it could commit malicious acts of terror at any time. I know that SyFy in the past has had a reputation for not releasing the best films, but this one was damn good and kept me interested.” Ryan T. Cusick, iHorror.com

“The real problem with this film from director Alexander Yellen and screenwriter Peter Sullivan is that the plot is exactly like the kind of thing you would have found in a horror film from the 90s or early 00s, and not one of the good ones. It’s tired, clichéd, and a few recognisable names and faces in the cast can’t remotely save it.” Ryan McDonald, Shameless Self Expression
