BLACK SITE (2018) Reviews and overview

‘Deport all gods’

Black Site is a 2018 British science fiction action horror film directed by Tom Paton (Assailant; Black Ops/The Ascent; RedWood; Pandorica).

The movie stars Jessica-Jane Stafford, Lauren Ashley Carter and Sophia Del Pizzo.

Official plot description:

The Raid meets Lovecraftian cosmic horror as a young woman is forced to push past her worst fears and battle to deport an ancient entity back to where it came from. Set inside a single location building known as The Artemis Black Site, the movie mixes a Die Hard-style survival story with horror elements and a villain cut from the same mould as Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.”

Reviews:

” …all set to the beat of a pulsating synth score (because of course it has a synth score). It is a shame the writing and overall execution isn’t quite as thought out as the details of its world, but there is no denying that there is a glint of old school charm that keeps this an entertaining, if not particularly impressionable, experience.” The Hollywood News

“There’s several shots of a giant tentacled creature in the sky (almost identical to The Mid Flayer in Stranger Things) that look fantastic. The whole story gives proceedings an edge that similar films don’t have despite a pretty generic futuristic site. Performances are very good. There’s plenty of strong female characters here and luckily the actresses playing the roles are just as good.” Nerdly

“The facility might be designated a black site, but it boasts zones that are yellow, green and blue, allowing for some stylised colour coding to keep things visually interesting. Less interesting, at least eventually, are Ren’s episodic freakout visions of her possessed parents, a comet and a winged tentacular entity, which, though a welcome escape from the environs of the facility, become in themselves a repetitive routine.” SciFiNow
