Mortal Kombat 11 is an upcoming video game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It is a sequel to 2015’s Mortal Kombat X.
Announced at The Game Awards 2018, the game is set to be released worldwide on April 23, 2019, for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Following Shinnok’s defeat in Mortal Kombat X, a corrupted Raiden plans to protect Earthrealm by destroying all its enemies, but a new enemy known as Kronika, who calls herself “The Keeper of Time”, is attempting to bring order to the universe through any means necessary, including eliminating Raiden for having previously tampered the events of the past. Kronika has powers over the flow of time, and she has been altering the tournament’s timeline since the series’ beginnings. She is slated to be the series’ first female boss.
Like its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11 is a 2.5D fighting game. New game play techniques have been introduced, including “fatal blows”, available for players to use when their player character health drops too low, and “crushing blows”, that can be activated when certain character-specific requirements are met.
The game features a 25 character roster, inclulding Raiden, Baraka, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Sonya Blade, as well as Skarlet and newcomer Geras, the latter of whom has powers that allow him to control the flow of time and produce sand-based attacks. Each fighters has their own outfits and weapons, which can be further customised by players
