‘The hunt is on’

Red Hook is a 2009 American slasher horror thriller feature film directed by Elizabeth Lucas (Fade to White) from a screenplay co-written with Sammy Buck. The movie stars Terrence Mann, Christina Brucato, Tate Ellington and Alex Brightman.

Ten years after witnessing her older sister’s brutal murder, Jenny Traylor leaves her hometown in North Carolina to start her freshman year at the University of New York City. Still traumatised by her sister’s death and struggling with crippling agoraphobia, Jenny tries to cope with the overwhelming city and figure out her new life.

When Jenny’s over-enthusiastic Resident Advisor organises a Welcome Week scavenger hunt, Jenny is reluctantly persuaded to join the game. But as she and her new friends decipher the cryptic clues texted to their cell phones – clues that lead them through darker and increasingly remote parts of the city – it becomes terrifyingly clear how high the stakes have become. Someone is hunting for real..

“It was well acted by a cast of relative but talented unknowns, Elizabeth Lucas as a film director has a good feel for the camera and she expertly guided her cast of actors where she needed them to go. No, the movie wasn’t all that scary or frightening but there was a good amount of bloodletting out there for those of you who like that kind of thing…” Film Critics United

“The only piece that might have stood out here is the scavenger hunt gimmick, or possibly some unique deaths to make this memorable, but the finale of it all was so over-the-top as to lose the audience with eye rolls…” From Black to Red

” …takes the “deadly scavenger hunt” premise, but haphazardly works a slasher plot into it, culminating in a “twist” that I literally called the second the character who turned out to be the killer was introduced (and my wife is a witness!) [..] They also don’t give him a clear motive, which bugs me in films with complicated scenarios.” Horror Movie a Day

“Director Lucas made a film that could literally be put next to many larger budgeted films and look much better. She uses the city to her advantage and shoots it in an interesting manner. Music is used well and overall the package looks great […] but the story just didn’t work for me.” Horror News
