‘You’ll never stay anywhere else’

Room 9 is a 2021 American horror film about a young man who visits the small-town inn where a double murder occurred years before.

Written, produced and directed by Thomas Walton, making his feature debut. The PhilaDreams Films production stars Michael Berryman, Kane Hodder, Scout Taylor-Compton, Brian Anthony Wilson and Michael Emery.

Plot:

Long ago, Room 9 of the Johnson/Bedford Inn, located in a remote small town, was the site of a gruesome double murder.

Decades later, with the town terrorized once again by a string of bloody ritual killings, a mysterious woman named Star arrives to investigate and suffers bizarre flashbacks related to the inn’s slayings. Is she connected to the killings… or the inn’s next victim?

Reviews:

” …I have no idea why this movie was made. The production quality is severely lacking which is rooted more in strange stylistic choices than lack of budget. This movie looks and sounds like it was made by a group of tweens who found their parents (or grandparents) home video recording equipment. There is nothing about this movie that I actually liked.” Heaven of Horror

“The ending makes no sense and serves as a major eye roll. Awful transitions between scenes, as if they accounted for commercial breaks, made Room 9 even more of a chore to finish. Make no mistake, this is one film that I would have shut off in the first five minutes had I not been reviewing it myself. Save yourself the misery—book a stay at an entirely different destination.” Josh at the Movies

“The movie itself has zero redeeming values. Everything from the obnoxious direction and editing, washed-out and flat cinematography, bad acting from all involved (including the more seasoned actors like Kane Hodder and Scout Taylor-Compton), poor “plot” which only became laughable at the end and worse of all, absolutely dreadful sound design…” Movieman’s Guide to the Movies

“Hell, Room 9 goes on for over an hour before it even gets to anything that feels like actual plot! Oh, and when we do get the plot, it’s 90 minutes(!) into the film before we get any explanation of what we’ve been watching. And by explanation I mean we get the antagonist of the film delivering a monologue about what he’s done and why he did it. Utterly ridiculous!” Nerdly

“Unless you read the plot synopsis or view the trailer beforehand, you will spend most of the film very much lost. Not until the last sequence do we get any kind of explanation and, honestly, it is not worth the wait. When trying to think of a film easily comparable to Room 9, the closest example would be Howling 7. Both films contain a lot of music and random bar scenes, and once in a while, both movies will slip in a bit that references the murders.” Nightmarish Conjurings
