Dune is a 2021 science fiction film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel about a young man who has to travel to a dangerous planet to fulfil his destiny.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049; Arrival) from a screenplay co-written with Eric Roth (Wolfen) and Jon Spaihts (The Mummy; Doctor Strange; Prometheus), the movie stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Jason Momoa and Josh Bolin.

Plot:

Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to Arrakis, a harsh and dangerous desert planet plagued by giant sandworms to ensure the future of his family and his people.

As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of melange, the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive…

Reviews:

“The screenplay written by Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth impressively untangles the novel’s knotty lore and quickly puts to bed any fears that you will need to frantically sketch out family trees and fashion a glossary in order to understand who’s who and what’s what on Arrakis […] Villeneuve’s spectacle is a bombastic yet uncluttered one, much like the architecture that production designer Patrice Vermette treats us to.” First Showing

” …good heavens, what a film. The drama is played out with relish by an ensemble cast (Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa) and Villeneuve is confident enough to let the temperature slowly build before the big operatic set-pieces eventually break cover. He has constructed an entire world for us here, thick with myth and mystery, stripped of narrative signposts or even much in the way of handy exposition.” The Guardian
