Eerie is a 2018 Filippino horror film directed by Mikhail Red (Block Z) from a screenplay co-written with Mariah Reodica and Rae Red. The movie stars Bea Alonzo, Charo Santos-Concio, Jake Cuenca and Maxene Magalona.
Plot:
The unexpected and gruesome death of a student threatens the existence of an old Catholic school for girls. Pat Consolacion (Bea Alonzo), the school guidance counsellor, involves herself with the students in the hopes of helping them cope, and at the same time uncover the mysteries of the student’s death.
Most students suspect of the strict and borderline abusive Mother Alice (Charo Santos-Concio), who also threatened Pat’s tenure in the school because of her continuous meddling with the case.
However, Pat’s unusual talents lead her to know Eri, a former student who’s been watching the whole school for years. Piece by piece, Pat uncovers the secret of the school and the monster that was nurtured within for the past century…
Reviews:
“Eerie is definitely a slow-burner but it has a really gorgeous and beautiful style that works very well. Also, the ending of Eerie reveals a story that you probably didn’t expect. It’s worth checking out if you enjoy slow-burn horror movies with a ghost story at the center of it.” Karina Adelgaard, Heaven of Horror
“There’s potential in its technical craft, but conceptually, it finds itself in a paradox of having both too much and too little to say […] Many horror greats are those that deliver scares through biting social commentary. However, Eerie feels like more like a defanged foray into the genre.” Tristan Zinampan, Screen Anarchy
“Eerie confirms my suspicion that contemporary horror films bear conservative ideas despite doing something which seems new […] Eerie tries to deliver a certain message about non-conservative affection and sexuality through its conscious depiction of the struggles of its characters.” Epoy Deyto, V Cinema review
