TORMENTED aka BERKSHIRE COUNTY (2014) Reviews and overview

‘ …and you thought the wolf was bad.’

Tormented aka Berkshire County is a 2014 Canadian home invasion horror film about a babysitting teen terrorised by a maniac in a pig mask.

Directed by Audrey Cummings (She Never Died; Darken) from a screenplay written by Chris Gamble, the Narrow Edge Productions movie stars Alysa King, Madison Ferguson, Cristophe Gallander and Samora Smallwood.

Plot:

Kylie Winters (Alysa King), a bullied and self-loathing teen, reluctantly agrees to babysit at an isolated country mansion on Halloween night.

When a small boy in a pig mask appears at the door trick-or-treating, Kylie’s night transforms into a horrifying and violent cat-and-mouse game. She must go beyond what she ever thought possible if she and the children are to survive the night…

Reviews:

” …cool simple twists coupled with a technically well-made film and some nicely executed performances make Berkshire County one of the best indie low-budget films that I have seen this year […] If you know what you are in for and you enjoy a good home invasion film you can’t go wrong with this one, it deserves the highest of accolades and trust me it’s “good until the last oink” Adam the Movie God

“The frustrated tension that comes from watching killers without purpose torment without explanation pops from every corner once the action starts cooking. Truth is, Berkshire County is such a straightforward story that there isn’t much else to say.  It’s simple, yet effective, which is simultaneously the film’s boon as well as its Achilles Heel.” Culture Crypt

“Beyond the inherent terror associated with a home invasion, the pig masks worn by the home invaders are exceptionally creepy as is their silence. The scenario is very similar to the one portrayed in The Strangers. The narrative twist isn’t entirely unpredictable for those schooled in the genre…” Digital Journal

Berkshire County is uninspired, offering the lowest common denominator of entertainment a film of its genre can. From start to finish, the filmmakers rely on devices they expect the viewer will rely on, rather than drag audiences outside of their comfort zone with fiendish creativity or fresh twists on old takes.” Way Too Indie

“Home invasion films always tend to hit home a little more than most other horror films because of the possibility of the occurrences actually happening to any of us […] Berkshire County does a nice job with King’s character and the invaders and keeps the pace of the story at a frenetic pace keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat for most of the viewing.” Wicked Channel

Berkshire County is an average thriller.  It may not be one for the books, but the flick shows competence on various levels and effortlessly shows other filmmakers that it’s possible to make satisfying lemonade out of clichéd lemons.” Wylie Writes
