The Faceless Man is a 2019 Australian horror feature film that features ruthless thugs alongside the supernatural titular monster.
Written and directed by James Di Martino, the Chapter Five Studios production stars Sophie Thurling, Lucas Pittaway, Andy McPhee and Roger Ward.
Emily (Sophie Thurling) is a recovering cancer survivor of three years. Faced with her fear of getting sick again, her best friend Nina plans a weekend away. Six friends venture out to a country holiday house to party over a weekend.
Cut off from the rest of the world they soon learn the inhabitants are unsettling red neck individuals who terrorise and humiliate travellers. At the same time, a paranormal monster seen as the faceless man haunts the house pushing the friends to their limits…
“ …The Faceless Man is sublimely perfect in every way you can imagine. While it might sound like its wild ambitions create tonal whiplash at every turn, that is not the case. Thanks to a game cast, intelligent writing, and phenomenal direction, it all seamlessly blends together and works flawlessly.” Bobby Lepire, Film Threat
“The Faceless Man is a step above its other independent counterparts that often feel rough and unrefined in comparison. It’s truly a journey unlike any other, a local offering that feels born entirely out of the energy and determination of its filmmaker and while there’s a lot to be desired in a refinement sense, you can’t help but have a great time…” Jordan & Eddie
“We could have had more development on the group of friends, as they end up coming off like your usual slasher cast. With the different arcs we do get plenty of violence which is what the film wants to pay respect to the Ozploitation era of cinema, which will help understand the tone of the film.” Movie Reviews 101
“So ok, The Faceless Man isn’t exactly the reinvention of the horror genre – but it’s sooo much fun for this very reason, as it mixes elements from various subgenres – from slasher to haunted house to backwoods terror with a hint of gangster movie – to an intentionally pulpy and highly explosive mix…” Mike Haberflener, Search My Trash
