John Woo’s action thriller Face/Off (1997) is being rebooted

As reported by Deadline, Paramount Pictures is developing a reboot of Face/Off, the OTT 1997 action thriller directed by John Woo that starred Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.

Although a director has yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox; Freaks of Nature) will write the screenplay, Neal Moritz will produce and David Permut (the original producer) will act as executive producer. Maybe Cage and Travolta will re-appear in cameo roles?

Here’s the demented and thoroughly enjoyable plot of the original version:

Obsessed with bringing terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) to justice, FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) tracks down Troy, who has boarded a plane in Los Angeles. After the plane crashes and Troy is severely injured, possibly dead, Archer undergoes surgery to remove his face and replace it with Troy’s.

As Archer tries to use his disguise to elicit information about a bomb from Troy’s brother, Troy awakes from a coma and forces the doctor who performed the surgery to give him Archer’s face!
