TRANSIT 17 (2019) Reviews and overview

‘Fighting to save the only cure’

Transit 17 is a Belgian-British science-fiction action film about a virulent virus and a teenage girl who seems to be the last hope for a cure.

Written, directed by and starring Guy Bleyaert, the Vision Films production also stars martial arts star and World Champion Zara Phythian (Doctor Strange), Silvio Simac (John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum), Lee Charles (Dragon Kingdom), Kimberly Stahl (Lost), Stefanie Joosten (voice of Quiet in the game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain), John Flanders (Moonwalkers) and Lucas Tavernier (The Monuments Men).

Released in 2019, the movie has apparently been completed since 2014.

Plot:

After Europe is hit with a virus, which infected 60 million people, General Ratzinger (Jean-Paul Van der Velde) and his military aim to control the survivors hidden in secret outputs known as “transits.”

Lead by the Commander (Silvio Simac), his “sniffers” continue to look for those who refuse to be confined, while insurgents known as the Free Fighters, led by Vanguard (Christophe VanZandycke), aim to evade and destroy this oppressive military which, instead of looking for a cure, continues to kill the infected as they grow in numbers.

Meanwhile, a separate Resistance team composed of Tex (Guy Bleyaert), Eve (Zara Phythian), Brad (Lee Charles), Deena (Kimberly Stahl) and Daniel (Daniel Pala) sets out on a secret operation to find Jen (Maria Melikidze), a fifteen-year-old girl who was infected with the virus but survived. She may be the only hope for a cure, which causes The Free Fighters and the Resistance to join together. They will stop at nothing until she is safe and the cure to save mankind is discovered…

Release:

Transit 17 is available on VOD from October 22nd and on DVD December 17th, 2019.

Reviews:

“There is a large scope to the action and most of the best scenes are outside. The camera work is great, and people are clearly seen thanks to the thoughtful lighting. The film has a pro feel, not cheap, there is use of green screen in a few parts, but the tech looks detailed and intricate.” Dan’s Movie Report

” …a solid script that doesn’t aim higher than the budget allows coupled with a direction that sees that every penny (and then some) can be seen on screen, a swift pace that really keeps the audience on the edge of their seats throughout, nicely executed action set pieces and an emphasis on atmosphere.” Search My Trash

“It’s not another Redcon-1 with seemingly endless action scenes but it’s not all talk either. There’s plenty of gun battles and hand to hand combat scattered through the film. There’s even a side plot with a team of mercs hired to take out a radio jamming tower to add a bit more action. I do wish we’d gotten a bit more of the zombies though.” Voices from the Balcony

Background:

“This production was really something special for me. I wanted to give it a certain style with a mixture of sci-fi, action and creatures in the story,” says Guy Bleyaert. “I loved having full control over the script and production design, and I really wanted to give it my own touch. That said, I must admit it came with a lot more effort and work for me then expected.”

“It is not easy these days to come up with a refreshing story and a twist,” Bleyaert continues. “The biggest challenge was to get it done with the budget at hand. The cast and crew were as excited as I was, and that helped a lot, as teamwork is very important in a production like this.”

“Vision is very proud to be presenting Transit 17,” says Vision Films Managing Director/CEO, Lise Romanoff. “This intriguing film, which contains a huge amount of special effects and action, is an absolute achievement for the filmmaker, who wears many hats, Guy Bleyaert. We are excited to be bringing it to the world.”
