SUPERMAN: RED SON (2020) Reviews and overview

Superman: Red Son is a 2020 American animated superhero film about baby Kal-El’s rocket landing in the Soviet Union rather than Kansas.

Directed and co-produced by Sam Liu from a screenplay written by J.M. DeMatteis, based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson and Kilian Plunkett, the Warner Bros.-DC Comics production stars Jason Isaacs, Amy Acker, Diedrich Bader and Vanessa Marshall.

Reviews:
“Somewhat similar to Soviet Superman, Red Son has its heart in the right place. With an emphasis on static chatter over-energetic action, however, it just doesn’t wash out in the top tier of DC animated movies. The animation style fits well with the Bruce Timm look of the 1990s syndicated series.” Culture Crypt

“Some good lessons, and a neat alternate type of history to explore. It’s really great to see animated efforts like this doing something wildly weird and so different. It’s a good medium for this type of setup and it is an intriguing narrative.” Gamer Headquarters

“It’s unfortunate that the seriously underwhelming ending and bland animation style suck the wind out of the movie’s sails because Red Son had the potential to be one of DC’s best. As it is, it’s still well worth watching for Superman fans who want to see a different side of the character and experience a unique vision of the DC Universe.” IGN
