BHOOT: PART ONE – THE HAUNTED SHIP (2020) Reviews and overview

Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship is a 2020 Indian horror film about a man’s attempt to solve the mystery of a ship lying beached on the shoreline.

Written and directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh, the Dharma Productions movie stars Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana and Parthaa Akerkar.

Plot:

In June 2012, A huge, dead, unmanned ship, the Sea Bird, on its way to a shipyard, broke its ties and ran ashore Juhu beach. Prithvi (Vicky Kaushal), a shipping officer recovering from psychotic depression due to the loss of his family, is in charge of getting the Sea Bird back afloat…

Reviews:

“Within its murky labyrinth, with no sense of any direction from writer-director Bhanu Pratap Singh, the film doesn’t seem to end. There is a ghost, a love story, a hate story, a smuggling ring, a church, a red dress, a doll, and a lot of clicking of fingers.” The Indian Express

“In the end, the burden of Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship falls on Vicky’s shoulders and the actor tries his best to keep it from sinking. He plays his part with conviction but succumbs to a lack of directorial sense and a weak storyline. Like Vicky, the makers waste Ashutosh Rana’s talent in Bhoot as well.” Movie Koop

“While the film’s runtime is short, the pace seems exhausting because most of the scenes are concluded abruptly, leaving you waiting for the big reveal. However, the all-important backstory isn’t convincing enough to make your wait worth it. For a horror film, Bhoot Part One the Haunted Ship falls short of sending chills down your spine.” Times of India

“Like most horror films, Bhoot builds up and builds up to the point of boring you with scenes that don’t look very different from each other. Like most horror films, Bhoot also tells you the real story in a quick 15-minute sequence towards the end. The unravelling comes too late and happens too fast.” Without Giving the Movie Away
