Evil Dead Rise is now the title for the next entry in the Evil Dead franchise, it has been revealed. Previously, actor Bruce Campbell has also said that the movie is “A whole new ballgame. No more cabin in the woods.”
Campbell previously told Empire magazine that producer Sam Raimi has selected Lee Cronin, who directed The Hole in the Ground, to write and helm the new movie. Cronin also directed the “13 Steps to Hell” segment from Raimi’s 50 States of Fright series on Quibi.
“It’s called Evil Dead Now,” said Campbell. “Sam handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole in the Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”
Furthermore, Campbell revealed that Cronin’s film won’t focus on Ash, but instead on a new group of demon-battling heroines.
“From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating,” Campbell enthused. “You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic. We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”
Campbell did not mention any continuation of the plot from Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead (2013) reboot so, at present, we’re presuming the new movie will be standalone.
