ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK (2020) Reviews and overview

‘Six hours. Five hits. Who will survive?’

One Night in Bangkok is a 2020 American action-thriller film about a hitman in a cab – a homage to Collateral – with a shocking twist.

Written and directed by Wych Kaosayananda, the Grindstone Entertainment Group production stars Mark Dacascos (The Driver; John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum), Vanida Golten, Prinya Intachai and Kane Kosugi.

Plot:

A hitman named Kai (Mark Dacascos) flies into Bangkok, gets a gun, and orders a cab. He offers a professional female driver big money to be his all-night driver. Unfortunately, when she realizes Kai is committing brutal murders at each stop, it’s too late to walk away.

Meanwhile, an offbeat police detective (Kane Kosugi, Tekken: Kazuya’s Revenge) races to decode the string of slayings before more blood is spilt…

Reviews:

“Unusually for an action movie, there’s next to no real action for an hour: the plot sets Kai in front of his targets, and – pop – off we drive to the next location. We’re left with all the lowish-octane thrills that follow from watching a man ticking items off his to-do list, and Kaosayananda makes such a deathly plod of it that vast stretches appear to be proceeding in real-time.” The Guardian

“I enjoyed the actors’ performances and the story; neither were perfect, but they were largely believable and memorable. There are fantastic sights to be seen and a few good realistic actions scenes that are not quite as over-the-top as John Wick 3 (Dacascos’ last big credit), but still entertaining on some levels.” Red Carpet Crash

” …at least the two male leads in Collateral have great push/pull chemistry on-screen. Dacascos and Golten, by contrast, have a low-simmering vibe that never escalates to slow-to-boil. One Night in Bangkok fatally stalls whenever Kaosayananda has to develop his hitman drama beyond place-holding cliches…” RogerEbert.com
