EATERS (2015) Reviews and overview

‘Prepare to meet a new breed of killers’

Eaters is a 2015 American horror film about five friends on a road trip who head into a remote town after one of the two ladies goes missing.

Written and directed by Johnny Tabor (Day of the Mummy), the Ruthless Pictures production stars Tristan Parrish Moore, Hannah Risinger, Jonathan Haltiwanger (Gotta Kill ‘Em All; Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!) and Marcelle Bowman (The Virus; The Last Ones).

Plot:

New Mexico, June 1974. Five friends embark on an epic road trip, but when one friend disappears at a rest stop, their search brings them face to face with a violent biker gang.

After a narrow escape from death, their nightmare goes from bad to spine-chilling when they find themselves being stalked in an abandoned town named Boot Heel…

Reviews:

“At times, it’s genuinely stylish, and the movie’s central mysteries […] are interesting enough to keep you watching. I also liked how the director tied several different subplots together (the bikers do make their way back into the story, leading to some of the film’s best sequences), and while there isn’t a lot of blood, the few scenes of gore that are featured are pretty darn shocking.” 2,500 Movies Challenge

Eaters has an interesting sun-scorched setting and a tense set-up but quickly devolves into routine and amateurishness due to its intentionally ambiguous plotting and poor performances. Either through paucity of imagination or concerns over getting an R-rating, writer/director/editor Johnny Tabor […] is oddly circumspect about the details of the titular monsters’ activities besides flesh-eating…” DVD Compare

“A perfect storm of painfully bad acting and redundant genre tropes, Eaters is everything you’ve seen before and nothing you’ll be able to forget anytime soon. The whole young-people-lost-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-slowly-getting-hacked-down-by-backwoods-people is assuredly the lamest of all horror sub-genres.” The Film Yap

“Bad acting and a bad story with inconsistent characters. Not sure why they kept the setting in 1974. Were they trying to be the New Mexico TCM? Strangers-like villains. Some gore EFX that are decent but not enough. One decent kill scene involving a large wooden sledgehammer meeting a skull.” Ricky D
