Scream 5 is being directed by Radio Silence aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet (the excellent Ready or Not; Southbound; V/H/S) with James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man; Zodiac; Darkness Falls) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not; Stan Against Evil TV series) co-scripting.
It has been confirmed that Neve Campbell is joining the cast of Scream 5. The actress has said:
“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”
The filmmakers added: “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honoured to join her in Woodsboro.”
We previously reported that Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures had aligned to co-produce the relaunch of the Scream franchise with David Arquette confirmed to reprise his role as Deputy Dewey. It has now been confirmed that Courteney Cox will also be coming back as news reporter Gale Weathers. Radio Silence enthused: “We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”
The latest casting news is that Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen) and Melissa Barrera have joined the movie in leading roles. Other cast news and plot details have yet to emerge.
Producers are Project X Entertainment’s aforementioned Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak, with franchise creator Kevin Williamson and Chad Villella acting as executive producers.
A January 14th, 2022 release is planned with principal photography planned to begin as soon as possible in Wilmington, North Carolina if pandemic restrictions permit.
