THE PARAMEDIC (2020) Reviews and overview

The Paramedic is a 2020 Spanish psychological thriller about a paranoid, indicative man that loses the ability to walk after an accident. His personal life begins to deteriorate and he becomes more and more suspicious of his partner. Meanwhile, his behaviour becomes increasingly disturbing… then psychotic.

Produced and directed by Carles Torras (Callback; Open 24h) from a screenplay co-written by David Desola (The Platform) and Hèctor Hernández Vicens (The Corpse of Anna Fritz), based on an original idea by Torras, the movie stars Mario Casas (The Occupant; The Bar; Witching and Bitching), Déborah François (The Monk), Guillermo Pfening and Maria Rodríguez Soto.

Reviews:

“With no characters in a movie that you can root for, it gets difficult to pass the time. Coming to acting, Mario Casas and Déborah François do a passable job with their roles.” ABC Entertainment

“It’s competent and well-acted but doesn’t distinguish itself from peers. Even if the quality’s variable, the character is chilling enough to give it a chance, and the final act just about justifies the whole watch.” Assholes Watching Movies

The Paramedic is certainly well made, but Ángel is such an unlikeable protagonist that some of the sequences involving his revenge plots – and general existence – feel grueling and unpleasant to endure. That said, however, the film boasts strong performances, a competent script, and a well-executed slow burn which can be hard to come by these days.” Decider

“While watching The Paramedic, you will most likely become very irritated. Both due to the actions of the lead character and the way too mild reactions from those around him. However, I just have to reveal that it will all be worth it in the end. The ending of The Paramedic is one of the most satisfying I’ve watched in a while.” Heaven of Horror

“The acting isn’t really great a lot of it just feels way too wooden, parts of the movie feel like they were completely written and directed by different people. It’s also very predictable as well, it follows pretty much the same cliches as a lot of these movies do.” Jerome Reviews…

“The second half of the film explores Ángel’s revenge plot. And that’s where Netflix’s The Paramedic becomes rather average because the mystery between the couple that held the momentum is suddenly lost. The story becomes an angry, strange man finding ways to keep his ex-partner in his life — a plot we’ve seen plenty of times.” Ready Steady Cut!

“Without any doubt, the best of El Practicante is Mario Casas. In any case, the screenplay breaks at various occasions in the film. It’s highly predictable, off-kilter, and once in a while excessively far-fetched. An awful thriller!” SocialNews.XYZ

“It’s just another addition to the Netflix chest of forgettable thrillers that no one wants to revisit. With themes such as abuse, jealous boyfriends and kidnapping, there’s a lot that could’ve been done with it. Unfortunately, it takes the cliché route and puts an end to any excitement that you might have started with.” TechQuila

“I had no real interest in how this film finished because I didn’t care about any of the characters.  There is great atmosphere and tension built up using a great score and lighting and all the usual trappings, but without good character work, it all goes to waste.” Trailer Trashed

The Paramedic has the perfect villain, but with no heroes or notable characters beyond the lead, it’s like watching a child beat on their stuffed animals or mannequins. Yes, you see them behaving badly, but with no life to what they are attacking, there is a slight feeling of indifference.” Wherever I Look
