‘So will our hearts decay.’
An Unquiet Grave is a 2019 American horror feature film about a young man who enlists his sister to bring his wife back from the dead.
Directed by Terence Krey from a screenplay co-written with co-star Christine Nyland, the Unquiet Films production also stars Jacob A. Ware.
A year after losing his wife in a car crash, Jamie convinces her sister, Ava, to return with him to the site of the accident and help him perform a strange ritual. However, as the night wears on, it becomes clear that he has darker intentions.”
“An unlikeable protagonist is not necessarily a bad thing, but they need to be at least compelling, and almost nothing in An Unquiet Grave is compelling. To be fair, there are some positives here. There’s a shocking and very effective use of practical gore at one point late in the film that jolts some life into the experience. The score is wonderfully atmospheric throughout…” Cultured Vultures
” …the biggest flaw I found in Unquiet Grave is that it played with my expectations and never delivered upon its promise. Though it might lack many moments of serious terror, An Unquiet Grave should be on your watchlist. Its deeply moving story, sympathetic characters, and brooding atmosphere create a powerful piece of storytelling with an important message about learning to move past our grief and carry on with our lives.” Killer Horror Critic
“There may be supernatural elements to the narrative, but everything about it somehow feels real. Director Terence Krey doesn’t rely on big-budget special horror effects (or cheap jump scares) and instead makes excellent use of sound (crunching footsteps), light (flickering headlights), and downright creepy situations (no spoilers here) to keep you on the edge of your seat.” Screen Zealots
“Some of the other things the film is supposed to deal with were less apparent to me, and I wouldn’t have made the connections if I hadn’t come across statements from the filmmakers. I’m not sure whether that was me being dense or the script not making them clear enough. Taken at face value, however, An Unquiet Grave is a distinctly creepy film. Both the build-up to the ritual and the aftermath as things spiral out of control are well handled.” Voices from the Balcony
An Unquiet Grave will be streamed on the Shudder platform in June 2021.
