Virus Shark movie film poster

Virus Shark is a 2020 American science fiction horror film about a shark bite that spreads a deadly virus across the globe. The world is turned upside down.

Deep below the ocean, a group of researchers race against time to find a cure. Something has infected the lab technicians and it’s a race against time to reach the surface with an antidote before they are all killed by themselves and the sharks lurking inside the test pool and outside in the ocean…

Directed and edited by Mark Polonia (Return to Splatter Farm; Bride of the Werewolf; Ghost of Camp Blood; Bigfoot vs. ZombiesFeeders; et al) from a screenplay attributed to “Aaron Drake”. Produced by Ron Bonk (House Shark).

The movie stars Jamie Morgan (Halloween Horror Tales), Steve Diasparra (Frozen Sasquatch; Queen Crab; The Dark Sleep), Natalie Himmelberger, Ken Van Sant (Amityville Exorcism; Sharkenstien), Titus Himmelberger, Sarah Duterte (Deadly Playthings), Noyes Lawton, Yolie Canales, Todd Carpenter, James Carolus (Scarecrow County; Outpost Earth; Land Shark) and Danielle Donahue (Phobic; Survival Knife; Jurassic Prey).

Reviews:

“SHVID-19! Virus Shark is a fun low budget homage to Deep Blue Sea from director Mark Polonia. Out of all the Polonia films from recent years, this one has to be my favorite.” Finalboys

” …very much a “Mark Polonia film”, featuring amateur performances, amateur filmmaking, a ridiculous story and a whole heap of fun. With a capital F! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… in this time of oh-so-serious consequences for our actions in the real world, movies like this: films that are very much camp, a little bit crazy and just on the right side of so bad its good…” Nerdly

“Ultimately, the problem isn’t just incompetence, it’s that the whole thing is botched. How do you respect a film that doesn’t respect you? I’ll give it that: it’s not afraid to bombard us with special effects and there’s no filler. There’s clutter, though, and that’s equally problematic.” Tales of Terror

“Wow! This was awful… Eh… Awesome! We have bad CGI, closeups of a plastic toy shark, poor acting and a lousy script. But it’s a charming little zero budget film. It’s so bad it’s fantastic!” Tobias Eggeby

Virus Shark is actually an amusing blend of everything from Deep Blue Sea to Deepstar Six, Warning Sign and cannibal films. The script, credited to Aaron Drake is just silly enough that you don’t expect it to make a hell of a lot of sense. And it doesn’t, but it stays just coherent enough that it doesn’t contradict itself either. This is a Mark Polonia film, so you can expect the usual lack of caring about details, however.” Voices from the Balcony

Choice dialogue:

Mace: “It’s like living in a science-fiction movie that never ends.”
