THE WRONG HOUSE aka HOUSE HUNTING (2013) Reviews and overview

‘Family is Hell’
The Wrong House is a 2013 American horror film about two families looking for a new home who go to an isolated property open for buyers. Unfortunately, having discovered a girl with no tongue, they also soon find they can’t leave. Also known as House Hunting

Written and directed by Eric Hurt, the Pillage and Plunder Pictures production stars Marc Singer, Art LaFleur, Hayley DuMond and Janey Gioiosa.

Plot:
Upon entering a desert farmhouse, two families discover that every attempt to leave takes them right back in. Stuck in purgatory, they are haunted by the home’s former owner, who declares only one clan will be able to call the house their home.

Reviews:
House Hunting is definitely a film that you will want to see. There are a lot of great elements within. This critic’s attention drifted slightly because some of the formula of past indie films could be seen here quickly, but this was still an enjoyable film. So order yourself some murder and expect some compelling action from some competent filmmakers who just want to make you scream!” 28 Days Later Analysis

“There’s […] plenty of tension as the Hays’ and Thompsons’ try to peacefully co-exist, only to find themselves at each other’s throats as the nightmare drags on. To top it off, there’s the occasional appearance of a ghostly figure, which only deepens the mystery. Unfortunately, director Eric Hunt does very little to sustain our interest throughout the film.” 2,500 Movies Challenge

” …first-time feature director Eric Hurt was either blessed with an able cast or he has the ability to paint over his film’s negatives with the outweighing positives. (Probably a bit of both.) There are leaks in the dam, but solid acting and an interesting premise carry the suspense through to the end. And although the foundation may be familiar, where the story goes is not quite as predictable.” Culture Crypt

“The only real problem I had with The Wrong House is that some of the acting was a little wobbly, but for the most part is was pretty good, with the likes of Art LaFleur and The Beastmaster himself, Marc Singer, turning in solid performances. It’s the wee Rebekah Kennedy who probably gives the most convincing performance though, as her role requires no dialogue, because she can’t, rather than won’t, and has to portray everything visually, and does so very well.” The Lair of Filth

“There aren’t a ton of scares, but there are a lot of tense situations that we find the family members in. The ending sequence reminded me of The Shining and in many ways these people lose their minds from the isolation. I also enjoyed the In the Mouth of Madness type trap, where driving away from the house will get you right back to the house.” Movie Mavs

” …for all the ham-fisted execution this is still arguably a more cinematic, more engrossing piece of work than countless other films released this year – no smartass wisecracks, no multi-million dollar CG, just a story that takes you places and a horror film that’s actually god damned scary.” Screen Anarchy
