WRATH OF MAN (2021) Reviews of Jason Statham action thriller

Wrath of Man is a 2021 American action thriller about a new cash truck security guard who enlists to wreak his violent vengeance on criminals.

Directed by Guy Ritchie from a screenplay co-written with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, based on Nicolas Boukhrief’s 2004 French film Le Convoyeur. The movie stars Jason Statham, Scott Eastwood, Jeffrey Donovan, Josh Hartnett and Niamh Algar.

Plot:

A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from.

Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score…

Reviews:

“Jason Statham is at his most Statham-y and his intensity is only matched by the body count he’s responsible for. The film tells a very simple story of a man full of rage and vengeance with an unlimited capacity to exact said revenge. Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham have a guaranteed hit on their hands…” Bulletproof Action

“Ritchie delivers a solid ultra-violent enterprise here and Statham, dark and shady and handy with guns, facilitates it for him. The supporting cast plays it for all its worth even if most of them are stock characters in this type of film. Donovan, Marsan and particularly McCallany are all very fine…” Deadline

Wrath of Man has enough twists and turns to keep viewers interested in the story and the action sequences, which can get incredibly brutal, are confidently filmed in daylight. Despite certain missteps and a lull in the story right near the end, the exceptional editing by James Herbert brings everything together […] It makes for an exciting, somewhat chaotic, finale that is full of suspense and comeuppance.” Screen Rant

“[Jason Statham] shoots a bunch of people, sure, but there’s no panache to anything. It’s a heist movie without the meticulous execution, a vengeance thriller with no emotional connection to the villain, a Statham movie with no @ss-kicking, and a Ritchie movie with no humor, no flash, no style.” UK Film Review
