Riders of Justice is a 2020 Danish action comedy about a man who is out for revenge for the death of his wife. He finds himself going up against an outlaw motorcycle club.

Written and directed by Anders Thomas Jensen, the movie stars Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round; Chaos Walking; Hannibal series), Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Andrea Heick Gadeberg and Lars Brygmann.

Plot:

Markus, who has to go home to his teenage daughter, Mathilde, when his wife dies in a tragic train accident. It seems like an accident until a mathematics geek, who was also a fellow passenger on the train, and his two colleagues show up. Markus begins to suspect his wife was murdered and embarks on a mission to find those responsible…

Reviews:

“There’s a remarkable chemistry between the group. It’s the beating heart which propels the action forward. It’s eminently watchable and while the action is often short and sweet that’s not really the point. Riders of Justice is a ripping yearn and a marvellously geeky buddies comedy.” Backseat Mafia

“Mads’ Markus is the quintessential definition of a One Man Army. He shoots to kill, not to wound. I would hate to be on his shit list. Riders of Justice also features one of my favorite final shootouts in recent memory. The acting is beyond phenomenal. This is a movie that makes you think.” Bulletproof Action

Riders of Justice starts off with a simple narrative of revenge. In this sense, you can easily establish a relationship between revenge and destiny, but the issues of black humour and the unconventional sense of delusion in the film clearly portray the human desperate state.” Dial M for Movie

“We want the bodies to pile up to satiate that action craving and the exhilarating novelty of a bearded Mads Mikkelsen wrecking fools, but we also hope he comes to his senses before it’s too late. In execution, Riders of Justice is anti-vengeance and pro-connectivity. It’s an off-kilter deadly work of art with only love for the traumatized and weird.” Flickering Myth

“Thanks to a meticulously crafted script that comes full circle and to the undeniable chemistry between all cast members, this hysterically funny caper comedy moves and entertains in equal measure, leaving you with much to think about and warming your heart with deeply emotional, universally relatable moments. Riders of Justice is storytelling at its best, and one of the year’s best films.” Loud and Clear

“The absurdist comedy caper proves suitably fitting to a deconstruction of the revenge-fuelled plot. Just as Hamlet, with his antic disposition, always teeters on comedy, Jensen gives the whole facade a delighted shove. Without ever losing sight of the violence – and sometimes delighting in it – there’s also a deeper philosophical point.” Sight and Sound

“Frequently zany and comedically dark, Jensen’s Riders of Justice is also full of soul. Grief is explored in a multi-faceted way rather than a quick group crying session. Mads Mikkelsen may be a standout here, but the whole cast brings a dynamism which creates a perfectly bittersweet story.” UK Film Review

“While tonally it’s a bit of a mixed bag, Riders of Justice really clicks into place with the dark humour & more tender moments. Featuring a brilliant ensemble cast, this Danish revenge thriller is a quirky and surprisingly poignant instalment from Jensen.” We Have a Hulk
