Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, it has been confirmed. The screenplay is being co-written by Dave Callaham, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, based on the character created by Stan Lee.
Shameik Moore will return to voice the Miles Morales.
The team has apparently been hard at work on the project for several months, but their involvement has now been officially confirmed. Producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg will be returning, alongside new co-producer Alonzo Ruvalcaba.
A joint statement said: “The crew behind… Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set such a ridiculously high bar, and we’re humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales. We can’t wait to surprise fans with the wild new adventure we’re sending Miles on with his friends, both old and new!”
“We are so lucky to have Joaquim, Justin and Kemp on the Spider-Verse team,” added writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. “They are all superheroes at what they do and each brings a unique sensibility to the ‘Spider-Verse.’”
The film is set to be released theatrically on October 7, 2022.
