Settlers is a 2021 British science fiction thriller film about a family on Mars fighting to protect their homestead.

Written and directed by Wyatt Rockefeller – making his feature debut – the Brittle-Star Pictures/Jericho Motion Pictures co-production stars Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Nell Tiger Free, Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting).

Plot:

On a remote homestead amongst the Martian frontier, a refugee family from Earth clings to hope for a better life. However, when strangers appear in the surrounding hills and attempt to run them off, nine-year-old Remmy (Brooklynn Prince) is faced with the desperate reality her mother (Sofia Boutella) and father (Jonny Lee Miller) have tried so hard to keep from her.

Reviews:

Settlers may well appeal to those who prefer their science fiction a bit more grounded and thoughtful but the film’s glacial pace and lack of momentum suck the life out of it […] But it’s hard to care about any of this because there’s no compelling dramatic drive and the characters are too cold and uninteresting to give much of a damn about. Beautifully filmed and rather stately from a visual perspective…” Starburst
