RUBIKON (2021) Preview of Austrian sci-fi disaster movie

Rubikon is a 2021 Austrian science fiction film about the dilemma facing the crew of a space station when the Earth is beset by toxic fog.

Directed by Magdalena Lauritsch from a screenplay co-written with Jessica Lind and story consultant Elisabeth Schmied. Produced by Klaus Graf, Loredana Rehekampff and Andreas Schmied.

The Samsara Filmproduktion/Graf Filmproduktion movie stars Julia Franz Richter, George Blagden, Mark Ivanir, Nicholas Monu, Daniela Kong and Konstantin Frolov.


2056: Company soldier Hannah (Julia Franz Richter) and scientists Gavin (George Blagden) and Dimitri (Mark Ivanir) are on board the Rubikon space station researching an algae project aimed to provide humanity with a permanent supply of oxygen and food.

Unfortunately, all of a sudden the Earth disappears in a mysterious brown, toxic fog and all contacts are broken. Are they the last survivors? Should they leave the safe station, risk their lives by flying back? What is worth living for, what is worth dying for?

Distribution and release date:

Rubikon will be shown at this year’s Frontières Buyers Showcase, which is running during the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
