Skulls is a 2022 American science fiction horror film that serves as “an origin story about the Predator’s first journey to this planet.”
The movie is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) from a screenplay written by Patrick Aison. It is produced by John Davis and John Fox (Jungle Cruise). Expect a title change to incorporate the vital marketing word “Predator”.
The 20th Century Studios production prequel stars Amber Midthunder as a female Comanche warrior who encounters an alien Predator.
Co-producer John Davis told Collider: “It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force. It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it.”
He added: “I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It’s going to be as good.”
Cinematographer Jeff Cutter (Orphan, 10 Cloverfield Lane) has announced on Instagram that filming has wrapped.
Meanwhile, it is rumoured that the completed movie will be released on Hulu.
