‘We’re in the dark here.’

Companion is a 2021 American post-apocalyptic horror film about a grieving woman who must choose to abandon her husband or die with him.

Written and directed by John Darbonne, the Left Eye Dominant production stars Anna Flynn, Marcus Anthony, Eric Hanson and Russell Shealy.

Reviews:

“The companions are used to fine effect, appearing sometimes as flashing visions like something off a television screen and at other times as decidedly solid creatures capable of killing. Darbonne’s dialogue is sharply written and believable, and the relationships between the characters feel realistic, with plenty of give and take, and back and forth. Companion comes with plenty of drama and philosophical pondering…” Horror Fuel

“The effects for the companions is surprisingly good, and the explanation and lore behind them is nice as well […] The argument between Abner and the Preacher isn’t interesting at all, and it’s really just an excuse for the characters to travel around this weird apocalypse world in search of a sanctuary that doesn’t exist […] It was all going very well until the final scenes.” The Horror Guys

” …a film that mixes elements of action films, horror movies and dramas, sometimes all at once. Darbonne’s script walks a fine line at times, trying not to let one of the film’s elements drown out the others, and it mostly succeeds. The human-on-human violence is well done and frequently looks painful rather than just bloody.” Voices from the Balcony
