Swim is a 2021 American action horror film about a family trapped in a hurricaneflooded vacation rental that becomes infested with a shark; they must keep going further and further up into the massive house as the water rises.

Directed by Jared Cohn (Shark Season; Fast and Fierce: Death RaceAlien PredatorHalloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill!Devil’s DomainHold Your Breath) from a screenplay written by Anthony C. Ferrante (Zombie Tidal Wave; Sharknado franchise; Hansel & GretelBooHeadless Horseman). Produced by David Michael Latt.

The Asylum production for Tubi Original stars Joey Lawrence (Isle of the Dead; Killer Pad; Urban Legends: Final Cut), Jennifer Field (Choke; Caller ID: Entity; Alice in Murderland), Andy Lauer, Brett Hargrave, Daniel Grogan, Rib Hillis (Psycho Storm Chaser; Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda; Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs; Piranhaconda; Sorority Party Massacre) and David Hutchison.

Our review:
Clearly inspired by Crawl (2019), except here a shark replaces the threat of alligators, Swim is competently directed by prolific Jared Cohn and the cast are all solid in their roles despite some dubious age differences regarding their roles. Predictably, as this is a production from The Asylum, the CGI is occasionally weak but it’s not overly distracting and certainly far better than in many low budget sharkfests.

Importantly, the shark attacks are decently paced throughout the movie. The storm effects are reasonably rendered and the only awkward element is some slightly odd audio which seems to have been redubbed in post.

Other reviews:
“The experienced, but largely unknown cast (the young Daniel Grogan as the teen son is good, here) are solid in what looks like a tough, waterlogged shoot. Jared Cohn delivers his usual goods, with everything obviously shot on sound stages and in water tanks — yet it looks like it was shot, Kevin Reynolds Waterworld-style, on location.” B&S About Movies

“It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but it is competently done, certainly better than the director’s last film featuring finny fiends, Shark Season. It’s actually better than a lot of his films, though that’s not exactly high praise. In the end, Swim is an acceptable time killer, especially if Tubi is available in your location and it’s free.” Voices from the Balcony
