‘When the movie ends, it’s not really the end…’
Coming Soon is a 2008 Thai horror film about a cinema employee who is pirating the movies that are being shown where he works. Unfortunately, one film he chooses is haunted by the ghost of an eye-gouging old hag who killed several children thirty years previously.
Directed by Sophon Sakdaphisit (The Promise; The Swimmers; LaddaLand; co-writer of Phobia and its sequel; Alone, 2007; Shutter, 2004) from a screenplay co-written with Kongkiat Khomsiri (as Kongkait Komesiri) and Chanajai Tonsaithong.
The GMM Tai Hub-Joy Luck Club Film House co-production stars Vorakarn Rojjanavatchra, Chantavit Dhanasevi, Sarinrat Thomas, Thanatorn Oudsahakul, Wanchat Kwangmuang and Oraphan Arjsamat.
Reviews:
“Unless you can’t get enough of Asian oh-so-creepy ghost women jump-cutting right in front of the camera with a sudden loud noise on the soundtrack, miss Coming Soon. It is a decent idea that was in need of a good screenplay to make it work and it didn’t get it.” The Boyg
“Sakdapisit tosses in a few effective setpieces and plenty of gouged-out eyes, but the majority of Coming Soon feels overly familiar and illogical”. Fangoria
” …it’s a nice mix of creepy and bloody…” The Horror Club
“Coming Soon is a Ring copy but has its moments […] The disappointment about Coming Soon is that it has a great premise – victims becoming trapped inside a movie – but, aside from the sporadic interest provided by the abovementioned scenes, it is routine and there is little to it beyond the cliches set in place by Ring.” Moria
