‘Lights. Camera. Splatter.’
Zomblogalypse is a 2021 British comedy horror film and a feature-length version of a zom-com web series that ran from 2008 to 2011. It follows the adventures of three inept survivors of a zombie apocalypse through a video blog they maintain to ease the boredom of day-to-day survival.
Written, directed by and starring Hannah Bungard, Tony Hipwell and Miles Watts.
Our view:
Let’s just say that humour is obviously personal. Zomblogalypse begins promisingly but for this reviewer, the juvenile comedy elements and the found-footage style camerawork soon became tiresome. Really tiresome. For others, this may be comedy gold.
There’s no doubt the filmmakers know their subject matter well and their performances are committed. That said, this feature seems merely an opportunity to recycle footage from their web series. It’s also painfully overlong. Watch the trailer below and decide for yourself. For a self-reflective and genuinely amusing take on zombies, we recommend the Japanese film One Cut of the Dead instead.

Other reviews:
” …Zomblogalypse falls short of its potential, but its amiable brand of comedy still scores pretty well and it’s likely to please longstanding fans of the blog […] Bungard, Hipwell and Watts have a clear affection for their subject and gradually wend their way to an ending which would have made George Romero smile.” Eye for Film
“For zombie enthusiasts, the film doesn’t hold back on the ‘zom’, serving up some brilliant lo-fi effects, as well as a charming ending that will delight any fan of the genre […] My sole minor criticism is to observe that, given the semi-improvised nature of the scenes, Zomblogalypse might work even better with a more ruthless edit, bringing it down to a lean eighty minutes. Regardless, it’s hard to dislike in its current form.” Horrified
” …this hilarious take on a world overrun by the undead would have us believe that a bunch of socially awkward, arrogant and oblivious nerds with very little common sense are the only ones that survive. This is why it is so funny as it would probably be the case! The acting is fantastic given that everyone in it seems to have no clue as to what is going on…” Horror Screams Video Vault
